Mexico showcases works of popular artist at 1st International Kala Mela 2018

The works of Joel Rendón, considered one of the most outstanding engravers in Mexico, will be on display at the first International Kala Mela 2018 organised by the Lalit Kala Akademi, in collaboration with IGNCA.
The work of Joel Rendón combines the longstanding Mexican tradition of relief print, contemporary techniques and motives linked to the cultural heritage of the country.
Considered one of the most outstanding engravers in Mexico, Joel Rendón (1967 – Puebla, México) calls himself a popular artist, who works to create a dialogue between art and the people. He has devoted his life to generate a movement to revalue engraving in Mexico and abroad, by opening spaces to promote print-making among younger generations through audio-visual media, graphic design, murals and television programs.
He has participated in solo and collective exhibitions in Africa, Argentina, Cuba, Spain, the United States, Puerto Rico, Colombia and Mexico. He has received several national and international grants and prizes such the “José Guadalupe Posada National Print Prize”, the Banff Centre for the Arts Residency Grant, and Honorific Mentions in the Habana and Guadalajara Graphic Art Biennale.
