ANNUAL PRIZE DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION AT GGSCW-26

Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh held its Annual Prize Distribution Function in Mata Ganga Auditorium on April 16, 2019. Prof. Sanjay Kaushik, Dean College Development Council, Panjab University, Chandigarh was the Honourable Chief Guest for the occasion. S. Gurdev Singh, President and S. Kulbir Singh, Vice President, Sikh Educational Society also graced the occasion with their presence. The function commenced on an auspicious note with the recital of the College Shabad. The Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur delivered the welcome address and presented the Annual Report of the College, highlighting the achievements of the students in academics, sports and cultural activities.
Lt. Ritu Dhanoa, a faculty member of the Department of Commerce of the College was felicitated by the Chief Guest for successfully completing a 3-month pre-commission training course at Officers’ Training Academy, Gwalior and for being appointed as a Company Commander. The Chief Guest, Prof. Sanjay Kaushik in his speech congratulated the students on their achievements and wished them success in their future endeavours. He motivated the students to pursue their goals with hard work, determination and perseverance.
Total of 320 prizes were given to students for their meritorious achievements in the fields of academics, cultural activities and sports. Around 64 students were given prizes in the field of academics, 124 students were given prizes in the field of sports and 132 students were given merit certificates and trophies for excellent achievements in cultural activities. Trophies were also given to NSS volunteers and NCC cadets for their selfless service and dedicated work. Ritu was adjudged the Best Overall NCC Navy Wing Cadet and Shalini Barthwal was declared the Best Overall NCC Army Wing Cadet. Muskan was declared the Best NSS Achiever.
Khushi Mandal was declared the Best in Dramatics, Darsift Kaur in Music Instrumental, Muskan in Dance and Ruchi in Fine Arts. Shruti Rana was declared the Best Speaker, Rehiana the Best All-Round Student in Arts, Ridham in Commerce, Upasana in Science and Manjeet Kaur in Computer Science. Muskan was declared the Best Outgoing Student.
27 Scholarships worth almost Rs 1,00,000 were given to needy and meritorious students. Mrs R.K. Shergill Award worth a scholarship of Rs. 25,000 was given to Sumanpreet Kaur for academic excellence.
Many sports students participated in various National and All India Inter-University Tournaments in various games throughout the year. The College won 2nd position in Panjab University Inter-College Overall Sports Championship in. The College won 1st position in Hockey, Cricket, Volleyball, Kho-Kho, Basketball, Boxing, Netball, Rowing, Softball and Rugby in various Inter-College competitions. Alisha Arya was declared All-Round Best Sportswoman of the year. Poonam was declared the Best Outgoing Student in Sports.
