Chandigarh Police achieved a major success by cracking the Highlighted Bank Robbery Case

Chandigarh Police has achieved a major success by cracking the Highlighted Bank Robbery Case with the arrest of one accused by a special team of Police Station-36 Chandigarh and recovered robbed property (i.e. cash 8.48 lacs as well as used Air pistol/ toy gun).
On 8.2.21, complainant Anuradha Avasthi, Branch Manager, Chandigarh State Co-op Bank, SCO 15, Sector 61, Chandigarh reported about a robbery incident committed by some unknown person on gunpoint. The alleged person having a pistol with him firstly entered the bank and then robbed a cash bag, containing Rs. 8,65,452/- from the bank employees on gunpoint. Accordingly, Case FIR 24 Dt. 8.2.21 U/S 392 IPC & 25/54/59 Arms Act PS-36, Chandigarh was registered.
A special team under the supervision of Ms Shruti Arora, IPS, ASP/South, led by Inspector Maninder Singh SHO, PS-36, Chandigarh was constituted to crack the case. During the investigation, the spot was thoroughly inspected and found that bank CCTV cameras were not found working for the last few days. Bank employees were questioned thoroughly about the description of the alleged. During questioning, it was revealed that the involved person may be well known to the area.
Secret sources were developed and suspected persons, drug addicts as well as previous convicts in such type of crimes of adjoining sectors near the incident area were interrogated. CCTV cameras footages with the matching timing of occurrence of adjoining sectors near the incident area were scrutinized.
After sustained fieldwork, diligent tracking and continuous sincere efforts, the team did commendable job by arresting accused namely Harjot Singh S/o Harjit Singh R/o # 137, Phase-3A, Mohali Age 34 yrs and worked out the case. Robbed property i.e. Cash Rs. 8,48,952/- and weapon used in crime i.e. Air pistol (toy gun) was also recovered. The vehicle used in the crime i.e. White Maruti Swift Car PB 65 G 2137 was also recovered.
Interrogation & Modus Oprandi:-
During sustained interrogation, he disclosed that he is B-pharmacy qualified and doing private sales & marketing job. He is habitual of drugs by consuming Corex syrup and used to visit market Sector 61, Chandigarh. During curfew/lockdown, his job was left and he faced an economical crisis. So, he needs money to fulfil his desires and committed said crime due to the influence of the drug.

The accused will be produced before the Hon’ble court for obtaining his police remand to ascertain further involvements if any.
