CII Northern Region organised an Interactive Session with NITI Aayog on Implementation of National Healthcare Protection Scheme (NHPS) and Ayushman Bharat at CII Northern Region Headquarters in Chandigarh today. The session aimed to create awareness amongst the healthcare providers about the recently announced scheme which is being implemented across the country.

While making a presentation, Dr Vinod Paul, Member, NITI Aayog shared the vision and contours of Ayushman Bharat Scheme. He highlighted that this scheme will provide healthcare delivery through health and wellness centres as part of the government’s commitment to ensure preventive and secured services to the people of India.

He also shared that the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s mission of national healthcare protection saw the light of the day a couple of days ago with launch of the first health centre at Bijapur in Chhattisgarh.

In his address at the session, Dr Paul provided details of National Health Protection Mission (NHPM), elaborated on enrolment of beneficiaries, informed about the empanelment criteria of service providers and led particular emphasis on the role of tier II & III cities in the successful implementation of NHPS.

He highlighted the need of an adequate infrastructure in these cities because of their proximity to the people who are expected to be served under this scheme. Dr Paul stated that secondary and tertiary care services will also be offered under NHPM through public and empanelled private hospitals by means of a transparent mechanism.

Dr Paul informed that the government is working on finalising the packages. Awareness is being created to help estimate the fair costs for various services. He also invited suggestions for expanding healthcare infrastructure in the underserved areas.

A robust system of fraud control and grievance redressal for beneficiaries as well as healthcare providers will be implemented by the State Governments based on specific guidelines for public & private healthcare providers.

Through NHPS, the government resolved to help create an affordable, efficient and trust-driven system with participation of State Government and public as well as private institutions.
