CUP OF LIFE-A pathbreaking initiative by Rotarian Dr.Megha Sharma

The Voice of Chandigarh-A dialogue from the movie ‘Padman’ says “Big men and strong men don’t make a country strong … but strong women, strong mothers, strong sisters make a country strong!”

The Rotary Clubs of India in Collaboration with Sirona Hygiene Foundation are humbled to present CUP OF LIFE.

  • Absorb the red flow,
  • Let the green grow!

Sanitary napkins take 500 long years to decompose into the earth. They wash into oceans & clog city sewers.

To save money, women often overuse pads, many times over, leading to infections and disease!

Menstrual cups are the solvers of both these problems.

The CUP OF LIFE, as the name suggests, is a project that aims to spread in women from different backgrounds the importance of menstrual hygiene and menstrual cups.

This will educate, empower & enable women. It focuses on the idea that menstrual cups are no longer a product used by only the rich but can be accessed by women in all strata of society too.

These menstrual cups have numerous advantages:

  • They are sustainable and environment friendly.
  • They prevent bacterial infection as they are made from medical grade silicon.
  • They have a minimum shelf life of 5 years and are reusable numerous times.
  • 125% cost efficient as compared to sanitary napkins and tampons.
  • They save water as we need just half a cup of hot water to clean.
Dr Megha Sharma, President- Rotary Club of Pune

To propagate these, they had organized a rally on 14th Feb at Goodluck Chowk, Pune. This project was initiated by the imaginative Dr Megha Sharma, President- Rotary Club of Pune, Kalyani Nagar. They intend to organize an awareness rally on menstrual hygiene every year on Valentine’s day from here on! We must thank President Kiran Ingle and 13 synergy clubs of district 3131 for organizing the campaign in the presence of our District Governor Rashmi Kulkarni along with the support of various social influencers and Rotarians. said Dr.Sharma.

A similar drive was organized successfully last week by Rotary club of Bharuch.

The CUP OF LIFE drive was inaugurated in Jamshedpur by RID Kamal Sanghvi & Rtn Sonal Sanghvi in the auspicious presence of DG Rtn Rajan Gandotra & First Lady Rtn Anju Gandotra.

This pan India drive shall be followed by the distribution of menstrual cups across multiple districts on the occasion of Women’s Day (8th March 2021).
The vision is to make it an International drive and revolutionize menstrual hygiene by 2024 and onwards for women globally.

This shall involve youth (rotaracters) in the project.

Each trained volunteer will be given a further 50 beneficiaries to train and follow up with every month. The youth is remarkable in society and hence can help have a wider reach. We also have multiple Social Influencers who have stepped up to be a part of this noble cause.

We can definitely give a spark to a global cause that is not only good for women’s health but also environmentally friendly.

The initiative is well supported by The Voice of Chandigarh as well!
Come let’s make a difference in other peoples lives by performing community service which is a worthy endeavour & a revolution in itself!
