Lohri Celebration in Chandigarh and Punjab

The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh (MCC) has organized ‘Lohri’ at Municipal Corporation office compound, Sector 17, Chandigarh. Kirron Kher, Member Parliament, UT, Chandigarh was the chief guest during the function. Others inluding Satya Pal Jain, Additional Solicitor General of India, Davesh Moudgil , Mayor of Chandigarh, Saurabh Mishra, IAS Additional Commissioner, Gurpreet Singh Dhillon, Senior Deputy Mayor, Vinod Kumar Aggarwal, Deputy Mayor, Anil Garg, Additional Commissioner, Tejdeep Singh Saini, Joint Commissioner, Manoj Bansal, Chief Engineer, Sanjay Arora, S.E. (PH), other councilors, senior officers and all employees of MC were present during the occasion.
NIIFT, preserving the tradition once again welcomed the first festival of the year,Lohri in its true essence at NIIFT Campus on 12thJanuary’2018.Lohri was celebrated by the NIIFT fraternity with great pomp and show.
DPS Kharbanda, IAS,Director General,NIIFT along with Sh. K S Brar,Director,NIIFT and Inderjit Singh, Registrar, NIIFT lit the auspicious bonfire to mark the occasion.
At the event DPS Kharbanda, Director General, NIIFT said, “The festival of Lohri brings happiness for every class and age group in North India. As we have students from varied cultural background it becomes utmost important to keep them connected to our Punjabi Virsa.”
K S Brar,Director,NIIFT wished that the warmth of bonfire, sweetness of gur and rewri at Lohri remain with the students forever.He further added that Prospectus for admissions 2018 at NIIFT,MOHALI will be made available from the month of February and that entrance examination will be held in the month of June’2018.
Lighting of the fire in the winter solstice , the delightful revaris & popcorn , the colourful Punjabi attire and most importantly the cheer among all was the sight at Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management Catering and Nutrition, Sector 42 D, Chandigarh as students, staff and faculty gathered around flaming Bonfire on Friday evening to celebrate the harvest festival of Lohri.
