MESSAGE OF GOVERNOR OF PUNJAB AND ADMINISTRATOR UT CHANDIGARH V.P. SINGH BADNORE ON THE OCCASION OF INDEPENDENCE DAY – 2021

THE VOICE OF CHANDIGARH NEWS

On the historic completion of 74 years of our country’s Independence with its emergence as the largest democracy and a leading economy of the world, I extend my heartiest felicitations to the people of India, particularly of Punjab and Chandigarh.

Today, we pay our respectful reverence to all those self sacrificing, devoted leaders and patriots who struggled for freedom throughout their lives; we also pay tributes to the brave members of our armed forces who laid down their lives while protecting the integrity and boundaries of our country.

The unprecedented contribution of Punjab to the cause of Freedom of our country is unmatched anywhere in the history of the world.  The great martyrs Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Lala Lajpat Rai, Shaheed Udham Singh, Kartar Singh Sarabha, Dewan Singh Kalepani and many more who shed every drop of their blood and had languished in Jails, have left a rich legacy for all of us which demands unbounded love and respect for our motherland besides firm commitment to preserve India’s glory and independence.

It is a matter of great pride to recall the laudable contribution of Punjab and its people, who spearheaded and displayed courage and commitment to the cause of freedom.  Peace and amity within our state and region are pre-requisites for development. Brave and hard working people of Punjab and Chandigarh are known for their gentle humanity and generosity. They are always ready to build peace, harmony and unity as preached and taught by our Great Guru’s.

Punjab Government has announced Malerkotla as another district in the state. The 23rd district holds huge historical significance; a suitable site for the district administrative complex is being located soon.

Similarly, Chandigarh Administration to has been fighting a fierce battle with the Corona virus and taking numerous steps to combat the situation. Regular review meetings are being held to take stock of the prevalent situations in and around Chandigarh through VC and time to time issues guidelines in accordance with the MHA and Health, Government of India.  All the three Medical Institutions in Chandigarh are working absolutely in coordination with the Administration and have been directed to take special care of co-morbid patients and ensure that fatalities are minimum I place on record my gratitude to the NGOs, VOs, Politicos and Religious Institutions for ensuring food for all in Chandigarh during these testing times. Timely action, strict perimeter control, setting up of rapid response teams and involvement of civil, the defence remained an integral part of our continuous fight against the coronavirus.

In the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, we have a dynamic, dedicated and determined leader who reflects the aspirations and hopes of over a billion people. Let us stay committed to evolve India that is inclusive, vibrant in growth opportunities and a strong leader in the comity of nations.

In Chandigarh, a number of people-oriented Schemes and programmes were initiated/ completed in the past five years. Foundation stone of Kajauli Phase V & VI Water lines was laid in October 2016 and commissioned in 2019 providing additional 29 MGD Water, Kalam Express initiative in 2017, inauguration of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar School on wheels for the underprivileged children, various projects launched under Smart City Mission, inauguration of Multi-storied 300 bedded Sarai at PGIMER, World Class facilities to sports persons in almost all Sports disciplines at Sports Complexes, launched the first of its kind Dejavu Multi-Device Health APP, Sukhna Lake declared a Wetland under Wetland Conservation and Management Rule, inauguration of 4965 Dwelling Units for EWS at Maloya, Launch of Atam Nirbhar Nidhi Scheme for the city Vendors implementing PM’s Atam Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, Received Public Affairs Centre Award for the Best Governed UT on Public Affairs Index 2020, U.T, Chandigarh has bagged the National Award for being 1st in position (among the Union Territories) in reduction of Infant Mortality Rate(IMR) and so on and so forth.

A proud moment for Chandigarh when Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mentioned city vendor Sanjay Rana in one of the episodes of Mann Ki Baat, recognising his humble contribution in spreading awareness about vaccination by offering free ‘Cholae Bhaturae’  to those who get vaccinated. The large-heartedness of our people is widely known.

I call upon the people of Chandigarh and Punjab, Civil & Police officers, Ex-servicemen, youth, Doctors, Academicians, Intellectuals, NGOs, Voluntary Organisations and Media to resolve to take our country to new heights with a new fervour and new energy.  Let us, on this occasion, renew our pledge to collectively work hard performing our duties with sincerity, commitment, devotion and dedication, keeping the interest of our country uppermost.
