National Lok Adalat organized in the District Court Sector 43 Chandigarh

Under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority, the State Legal Services Authority alongwith District Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh organized National Lok Adalat in the District Court, Sector 43, Chandigarh. Necessary directions regarding safety of litigants, staff and Judicial officers of the Court during the current situation of pandemic issued by the competent authority have been adhered to.

Thirteen benches headed by the serving Judicial Officers were constituted in the District Courts, Sector-43, Chandigarh Criminal Compoundable cases, cases under Section 138 of N.I.Act, Bank Recovery cases, MACT Cases, Matrimonial Disputes, Labour Disputes, Arbitration matters, other Civil Cases,  Municipal Matters and Traffic Challans were taken up and disposed off with the consent of the parties.

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Jaswant Singh, Judge Punjab and Haryana High Court cum Executive Chairman, State Legal Services Authority visited the Lok Adalat. He oversaw the arrangements made by the Legal Services and also visited the Court rooms and interacted with the officers and officials on duty. Speaking about the importance of Lok Adalat. Justice Jaswant Singh said that “Lok Adalats provide three-fold benefits involving speedy resolution of disputes coupled with reduced costs of litigation and avoiding further appeals, thereby making them the perfect instrument to resolve the heightened burdened on judiciary for disposing cases. He further said that he was satisfied with the arrangements and precautions being followed in the court premises.  

In National Lok Adalat total 1136 cases were disposed off by the benches of serving Judicial Officers constituted in New District Courts Complex, Sector 43, Chandigarh which include 16 Criminal Compoundable case involving an amount of Rs.10,56,310/-, 590 cases under Section 138 of N.I. Act involving an amount of Rs.2,45,83,445/-, 42 Motor Accident Claim cases involving an amount of Rs.3,98,70,000/-, 13 Matrimonial/Family Disputes, 23 Civil Suits and Rent Cases involving an amount of Rs.2,10,000/-, 11 Executions involving  an amount of Rs.9,44,262/-, 01 Criminal Revision, 3 Crl. Misc., 4 Civil Misc., 32 Arbitration cases, 3 Civil/Rent Appeals, 12 cases of 125 Cr.P.C. involving settlement of Rs.5,00,000/-, 6 case of D.V. Act, 05 Shop Act Case involving fine of Rs.46,000/- and 03 cases of Guardian Act, 23 Untrace cases and 20 Municipal Matters were settled, 329 Traffic Challans were also disposed of by imposing a fine of Rs.2,21,100/-. 

In addition to above, 173 cases involving an amount of Rs.1,53,95,559/- were disposed of by Permanent Lok Adalat (Public Utility Services), 12 pre-litigative cases involving an amount of Rs.13,20,500/-, 53 Labour Dispute Cases involving an amount of Rs.20,26,187/-.
