Song & Drama Division to disseminate the message of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao in Chandigarh, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh

An orientation workshop on Publicity (Information Education Communication) Programmes on ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign was organized by Song & Drama Division, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Chandigarh at Gurukul Global School Manimajra for cultural troupes of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. This was done in collaboration with Ministry of Women & Child Development, New Delhi and Departments of Women & Child Development of Punjab, UT Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh. Thirty cultural troupes from Punjab and Himachal Pradesh participated in the workshop. These cultural troupes would prepare and present infotainment programmes based on the theme of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.
They are scheduled to hold programmes for next one and half month in the 20 districts of Punjab and three of Himachal Pradesh. These districts are Taran Taran, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Muktsar, Mansa, Patiala, Sangrur, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Barnala, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Moga, Rupnagar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and Una, Kangra and Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh and UT Chandigarh. In all 780 awareness programmes on the theme of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao will be held in the coming days.
Inaugurating the workshop, Satya Pal Jain, Ex- MP, Senior Advocate & Additional Solicitor General of India stressed the need for disseminating the message to the masses through infotainment based cultural programmes as this is an effective medium to generate public awareness. He advised the artistes to be fully prepared on the topic and be able to answer the queries of masses, and to prepare their thematic presentations in a focused manner. Highlighting the significant role of women in many struggles, he urged one and all to contribute positively for empowerment of girls and women at all levels.
Harjinder Kaur, Ex. Mayor and Chairperson, Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights gave an overview on the socio-economic aspects regarding the rights of girls in particular.
Baljit Singh, Assistant Director, Song & Drama Division, Chandigarh threw light on the significant role of Song & Drama Division at the grassroots level. He guided the cultural troupes after their performances so that message of Beti Bachao Beti Padho will be disseminated in a better way.
Anjitha Chepyala, DSP, Women & Child Support Unit, Chandigarh Police highlighted the steps by Chandigarh Police so as to ensure safety of women as also promotion of women’s cause.
Senior officers from I&B Ministry departments- Ravinder Singh, Additional Director General, and Pavitar Singh, Joint Director Press Information Bureau, Chandigarh , Anuj Chandak, Deputy Director, Directorate of Field Publicity (NWR), Chandigarh, Sapna, Field Exhibition Officer, DAVP were present on the occasion, besides the other concerned officers of Women & Child Development Departments of UT, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh were present on the occasion.
