Workshop on Human Evolution begins at PU

The four-day National Workshop on the “Perspectives in Palaeoanthropology & Human Evolution: Concepts, Methods, Issues” began today at the Department of Anthropology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, which is the only Anthropology Department in India, known world-wide for its primate and ape fossil discoveries.
Prof. Meenakshi Malhotra, Dean of University Instruction, Panjab University, Chandigarh inaugurated the workshop and delivered the inaugural address.
The keynote address was delivered by renowned palaeontologist and geologist Prof. Ashok Sahni, who highlighted the early primate evolution during Eocene about 55 to 45 million years ago.
Prof. Brenda McCowan of University of California, Davis (USA) was the Guest of Honour and was felicitated for her contributions in the field of primatology.
During inauguration, Dr Kewal Krishan, Chairperson, apprised the audience about the achievements of the Department.
