The inaugural workshop under the theme of ‘Sustainable Practices´ of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of MCM DAV College for Women was held. Organised under the aegis of Skill Development Committee, the workshop on “Anchoring in Punjabi: Skill to Preserve Punjabi, Need of the Hour” was the first in the series of 6 workshops, the objective of which is to revive the interest, especially of the younger generation, in Punjabi language and to preserve and promote rich Punjabi cultural tradition. The workshops witnessed enthusiastic response as hundred students registered for them.
A first of its kind of skill development initiative by an educational institution in the region, the inaugural workshop had Prof. Satish Verma, a renowned Punjabi anchor, writer and director from Punjabi University, Patiala as the key resource person for the first session. Reiterating that anchoring is an innate ability that needs to be polished through skills like spontaneity, knowledge, command over language and confidence, Prof.Verma said that an anchor needs to continuously hone his skills. Other speakers on the occasion included Mrs.Satwinder Kaur (Khalsa College, Patiala), Mrs. Gurjeet Kaur (Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar), and Satpal and Gurnaaz, Senior Research Fellows, Department of Punjabi, Punjabi University, Patiala.
